YANG Hailing, female, 34 years old, was an employee at No.18 Donghai Coal Mine in Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province. YANG was tortured to death in the Mishan City No.1 Detention Center on April 12, 2003.
In March 2002, she was arrested for making truth-clarification materials and was sentenced to over 10 years in prison. She was refused admittance into the prison due to health reasons, so she was detained instead in the Mishan City No.1 Detention Center.
Her hands were cuffed behind her back so long that the tendons in both hands snapped. The police forcibly inserted a beer bottle in her mouth, and then force-fed her with a mustard solution. She was not given medical treatment, and died of torture on April 12, 2003.
